Ansel Adams will forever be remembered as one of America's great landscape photographers and environmental preservationists. His work played a key role in helping promote the preservation of American lands as national parks during the mid-twentieth century, and in recognition of this work, the Department of the Interior commissioned several large-format Western landscapes from the artist. This one, formally titled “Tetons and the Snake River, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming,” is perhaps the best-known, and has become an iconic reminder of the beauty that is America.
